Oh TONY, that’s a tough question… Saturday night at the Hotel Nacional. The best shows of Son, Rumba and Cha-cha-cha in Havana is gone now. All the talented members have split up, and I bet it is difficult to ever see them together again. Cabaret Tropicana is still managing to hang in there. Although the changes of the dancers are too rapid which is a bit odd. Even La Sola y Cuervo, where the people were overwhelmed by the flooding of sound and rhythm as soon as they went down the stairs to the basement and open the door, the palace of Cuban jazz, is now “exhausted.” The same goes for Casa de la Música, a place for Salsa lovers. My love for Cuban music led me to live in Havana, but now I have no passion to go out anywhere. What? There’s a Roberto Fonseca concert tonight? Alright! I have to go! I can’t waste my energy! Those days of being excited everyday seems like a dream to me now(tears in my eyes). Although Cuba is a small country, people always has called this place the powerhouse of music. How did this happen? Most of the talented artists are either traveling abroad or left the country for good. / TONYさん、うーん、ツラい質問ですね．．． 土曜夜のホテル・ナシオナル。 ハバナで最高のソン、ルンバ、チャチャチャが楽しめたショーは消えてなくなりました。 実力派揃いだったメンバーもバラバラになってしまい、再結成は永遠に難しいと思います。 キャバレー・トロピカーナは何とか頑張ってます。 ダンサーの入れ替わりが激しすぎてちょっとアレだけど。 地下に続く階段を下りて扉を開けた途端、音とリズムの洪水に圧倒されたキューバンジャズの殿堂、ラ・ソーラ・イ・クエルボも、今ではまさに「寂れ果てた」状態。 サルサ好きのためのカサ・デ・ラ・ムシカも同じく。 キューバ音楽好きが高じてハバナに住み始めた私ですが、今ではどこにも出かける気になりません。 え？ 今日はロベルト・フォンセカのライブ？ よし！ 行かないと！ 疲れてる場合じゃない！ と、しょっちゅう盛り上がってたあの頃が夢のよう（涙目）。 国は小さくても、音楽大国と呼ばれ続けてきたキューバがどうしてこんなことになってしまったのでしょう？ 実力のあるアーティストはほとんど海外に出かけているか、あるいは、出かけたまま帰ってこないのです。
